REAP Center Aesthetics Policy
Out of consideration for our neighboring schools, businesses, residents, and the City of Alameda, it is important that the REAP Center maintains an appearance that is tidy and allows for the appreciation of the green space where we exist.
The REAP Center’s general color palette is for Earth tones. The objective is to blend into the environment and create a cohesive theme across the site to the greatest degree possible.
1. All containers, structures, enclosures, or vehicles delivered to or constructed at REAP Center MUST be pre-approved by REAP Center. Just because a space is licensed for individual use does not inherently grant the approval of any of the above. Some spaces are licensed as open spaces and are intended to comply with REAP Center’s density requirements and restrictions.
2. Greenhouses, garden sheds, and structures must not exceed 120 sq ft - measured externally. All must sit directly on the ground or be on wheels. Posts cannot be buried and concrete footing cannot be poured.
3. It is a preference to have fewer vehicles and trailers onsite, and thus approvals for such will be highly limited. To normalize site aesthetic and consistency, Airstreams type vibe will be more readily considered. Though any onsite sleeping areas are strictly limited to those designated for security staff.
4. Before arrival onsite, containers and structures must be painted (including the container roof). If that is impossible for logistic reasons, please let us know and coordinate painting immediately upon arrival. Please choose from one of the following colors or something very close to them. Perhaps envision the Earth tones note above:

PANTONE 7737 C -

Or if ordering containers from Conexwest
5. Depending upon the line-of-sight from neighboring properties, containers may need to be further obscured or otherwise “dressed up” to break up the “boxy lines,” per the City of Alameda. Our preference is for 20 ft containers or smaller.
6. Container and structure delivery and placement must be complete by sunset. Please try to schedule deliveries for a weekend day. Otherwise, coordinate scheduling with a REAP Center admin. Delivery, labor, logistics, and required machinery are the responsibility of the container or structure owner.
7. Regularly inspect your containers for graffiti/tags and notify a REAP Center admin promptly. We cannot allow visible graffiti/tags on site, as we have had issues with these, and failure to cover previous graffiti/tags invites additional instances and violate City ordinance.
8. Please store your personal materials, tools, and projects within your containers. REAP Center is not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged items. If a project does not fit within your containers, please coordinate with a REAP Center admin for appropriate storage of your project and/or the licensing of additional space.
9. All visible spaces must be kept in a tidy manner. All items not actively in use must be stowed. Please watch for and remove trip hazards. Obstacles at head height must be marked, cushioned, or buffered. All members’ personal items must be kept within the boundary of the member’s designated individual space. Please work to minimize light pollution. The use of strobe lights is prohibited, as they can cause harm to people onsite, passing motorists, and at neighboring properties.
10. ART - The theme and objective for art throughout to be interactive kinetic sculpture, with occasional static sculpture. Overall, we hope to focus on three-dimensional pieces, as opposed to murals.
Please read, accept, and agree to abide by these rules before licensing a designated space.
