Community Food
We are big on zero waste and closed-loop systems. The mission of community food is in part to distribute our excess abundance and in part to teach people cooking skills. It also embraces local food distribution and food waste partnerships.
Hunger is an issue throughout the Alameda community and broader Bay Area despite tons of food going to waste every day. Through partnerships, REAP center is looking to provide food and nutritional education for community members sourced from our campus and beyond.
Food banks collect and distribute donated food and essential groceries to those in need. They act as a central hub, collaborating with local businesses, farmers, and volunteers to secure and distribute food resources efficiently. Beyond providing immediate relief, community food banks also promote long-term solutions by offering educational programs on nutrition, cooking, and budgeting. We hope to emulate that mission at REAP.
By fostering a sense of solidarity and compassion, food banks bringing communities together to tackle the pervasive issue of food insecurity. Though only a small part of our overall work in this sector, we are incredibly proud of our partnership with the Alameda Food Bank.
